diy alohomora door mat - harry potter craft

Don't you wish you could just wave your hand, speak some words, and open doors? I mean, besides when you enter and exit the grocery store... everyone can do that! Well, here's the perfect door mat for you! You can make it yourself in about an hour with simple supplies you probably already have. But even if you don't, they're easy to find and inexpensive.

Welcome your Halloween visitors with magick sure to open doors and lead to new friendships!

SUPPLIES:

  • A plain door mat.

  • Shiny black acrylic paint. They have multi-surface paint and even outdoor paint in the craft section of most stores. I used Martha Stewart that I purchased at JoAnn Fabric.

  • A small craft paint brush. I used a pointed variety.

  • Plain printer paper and a printer.

  • Scissors.

  • Tape.

  • A black sharpie.

  • A font you like. I used Harry_P

  • A Key and butterfly wing template you like. I searched free templates on google images.

DIRECTIONS:

  • Print out your word (It may take a couple of tries to get the letters the size you want). I used three sheets of paper to get the word large enough for the mat.

  • Cut out the letters careful not to destroy the paper. The paper will be your stencil. You can use an exacto blade to remove the letters if you have one. I'm terrible with exacto's so I just cut the letters out with scissors.

  • Now lay out the paper stencil where you want it on the mat and tape down. I used packing tape and extended it over the edge of the mat onto the floor.

  • Trace the letters onto the mat with your sharpie.

  • Remove the paper and fill in the letters with paint.

  • Let dry!

  • Repeat with key stencil and wings.

  • Let dry!

  • Place outside your door.

Enjoy the magick! Alohomora!
