diy floral crown

I all at once thought these would be easier and harder than they looked. Ha! It's a simple concept but at times more tricky than it should be. But you can definitely sit down and make a crown for as little as $5 and have it completed in one sitting and that's a winning craft in my mind.

Supplies:

  • wire for the crown. I used 20 gauge floral wire (it was all the small town store had) and it was way too thin for my liking. Get a heavier gauge or just grab some sturdy wire from the jewelry making supplies section.
  • wire snips
  • hot glue
  • floral tape
  • duct tape
  • florals. Sense this was the first floral crown, it was practice. I just grabbed a few stems from Dollar Tree. They're still really cute for my kids crowns but if I make more in the future I'll probably invest in better florals.
  • ribbon (we cut strips from some vintage fabric we had laying around.

Directions:

  1. Cut a length of wire that will sit on top of your head well. Curve it into a hoop and use duct tape to hold the ends of the wire together. Cover with floral tape. If you've never used floral tape before you have to give it a little stretch as you work it to activate the sticky quality.
  2. Use the floral tape to add pieces of floral to the wire. Work your way around the entire hoop.
  3. Use hot glue to add in leaves, shell, poms, buttons, etc to fill in any gaps. I also used a little dab of hot glue here and there to reinforce the florals and the floral tape.
  4. Tie on strips of ribbon to conceal the tape seam in the back.

See how easy it is? See how awkward it is? It comes out alright in the end!
