handmade lipbalm
Making your own lipbalm is pretty simple to do and allows you to choose ingredients you know will work for you! You get a higher quality product at a lower cost. Also, you’ll never have to worry about not having lipbalm around wherever and whenever you need it… handbag, car, nightstand, locker… YES!
This batch makes 8 tubes so give them out as gifts, share with your family, and have fun with this! I’ll also attach a file so you can easily print custom labels. If stored in a cool, dark space they have a shelf life of a year.
SUPPLIES:
Medium pot
2 cup glass measuring cup with handle
metal whisk
small oven mitt
Lipbalm tubes
pipettes
small scissor
parchment or wax paper
3 teaspoons beeswax
3 teaspoons solid coconut oil
1 teaspoon lanolin
2 teaspoons avocado oil
1 teaspoon apricot kernal oil
2 capsules of pure vitamin E
flavor oil or essential oil with a scent you like (optional)

DIRECTIONS:
Protect your work area with a sheet of parchment paper large enough to set all your ingredients on, including your tubes, whisk, and pipettes.
Open your tubes and set caps aside.
Fill your pot halfway full with water and place your glass measuring cup inside. Turn on the stove top burner to a heat that allows a gentle boil.
When you get a good boil add your beeswax to the glass, when it melts whisk in the coconut, avocado, and apricot kernal oils and lanolin until thoroghly combined and melted. Use your oven mitt to hold the handle of your glass while you stir so you don’t get burned.
Remove pot from heat.
Snip a capsule open and squeeze the vitamin E into your wax mixture, discard the gel capsule. Repeat with second capsule. whisk to combine.
Add in flavor oil or essential oil, if using. This part is really up to you. I use about five drops but if it doesn’t smell strong enough for you add a few more until you get it where you want it.
Use your pipette to transfer the mixture into the tubes. As the mixture cools it hardens and shrinks so you want to fill the tube until almost overfilled. You’ll want it to dome but try not to spill. It’s a bit of a balancing act here but you’ll get the hang of it. After tubes are filled let them cool completely. After cooled and hardened wipe away any wax that may have spilled over.
Cap and you are done!
If you want to make labels you can use my template which is the correct size or you can make your own. This is a silhouette label. You can print it and handcut it but it’s all set up to print and cut in your silhoutte. Have fun!
