edgefield mcmenamins

If you live in the Pacific Northwest or if you are traveling here you just have to take some time to enjoy McMenamins. It's a great getaway for couples or families! There are several McMenamins properties to choose from. McMenamins takes run-down (and I mean straight-up condemned from a horror movie) historic sites and bring them back to life in the most artistically eclectic way possible. It's like magick! The locations are rich in history to begin with, which is awesome, but then they bring in local artists to help create the spaces, musicians to entertain us, they cook straight out of the  gardens you walk through, and you can't ignore their great wines, beers, and spirits.

If you do live in the PNW I'd suggest grabbing a McMenamins passport! The passport gives you the opportunity to collect stamps at all of the locations, earning prizes along the way, and ending with a huge concert just for people who complete the passport. Everyone needs to sign up for the frequent guest program as well! After so many stays they treat you with a free stay! We just enjoyed our first free stay! Let's talk about my favorite McMenamins.

EDGEFIELD:

Starting with the best! This is my ALL TIME favorite place to go locally to relax or enjoy an event. They have everything here. They'll be hosting a formal reception for me this Fall and I cannot wait.

Out of all the McMenamins properties this one has it all! The best food, service, rooms, and soaking tub. My kids request to come here all the time! They walk the gardens and look for bunnies while mom and dad enjoy sipping an adult beverage. There is a beautiful golf course as well! We've spent a lot of time here over the years.

Golf

Bring your own clubs or borrow them from the golf shop up at the Cigar bar at the back of the property. The kids love to find lost golf balls! but not in the garden beds of course.

Eat

  • If you're looking for pub food check out the Power Station Pub, central location on the property. I usually get pizza or a sandwich... love the cajon tots!

  • If you'd like breakfast or a more formal meal selection head inside the main building and eat in the Black Rabbit Restaurant. Breakfast: I highly recommend the classic eggs benedict! And for dinner I favor the roasted chicken with mashed potatos and wilted greens. Seriously, I'm salivating just thinking about them.

Both restaurants offer gluten free substitutions!

Drink

  • Drink options are endless but I love the White Rabbit wine and the Ruby for a beer. The kids enjoy shirley temples, apple cider, and the bartender at the tea house bar can make a mean lemonade! (fresh squeezed lemon, sparkling water, and sugar.)

  • several small bars are positioned along the property. I adore the Jerry Garcia Ice House!

Soak

Outdoor heated salt water soaking lagoon with plants, fountains, and a bar.... do you need more? How about this...

yeah... we like it here. The soaking tub is only open to hotel and spa guests. Oh, did I forget to mention they have a fully staffed spa? yeah, they do.

 Stay

We love staying here! If you want to take the fam you can book a large room with bunks. Book ahead of time!! They book up quickly. You'll be able to choose from common bathrooms, shared bathrooms, and private bathrooms.

None of the rooms at Edgefield have tv's but you won't need one (there's so much to do) and you get free wi-fi if you want to bring your laptop or a tablet. You can add a romance package or beer package onto your stay. If you don't add on a package you'll still get spoiled! Each room has a pink jar, a sticker, and a post card that are yours to take home. Fill that jar with your favorite beer before you leave!

And remember to get set up on their frequent stay program so you can earn free stays! Grab a glass of wine and wonder the halls. You'll see all kinds of beautiful art, original photos, and historical memorabilia. Each room has a story about a resident or employee from the days before the hotel was a hotel... it was a "poor farm". I remember driving past this location as a child after they had closed it down. Everyone swore it was haunted!

Attend

Whether you attend a summer concert, a small weekend concert, a winery tour, a movie, or a festival... you will have fun! And maybe you just stop by on an impromptu trip? Head downstairs and shoot pool or throw some darts at Staeleys Pool Hall. It's casual and fun!

There is also a glass blowing and ceramics studio you can visit while you're there. I collect the witch's balls you find in the glass studio. I have four so far! <3

Let me know what your favorite parts of Edgefield are! and don't forget to pack your suit!
