lost lake campground

Everyone goes to Lost Lake. Am I right? I don't really like that. I normally try for places that are either unknown or less than half the people I know have been there. Here's the thing about lost lake though... When you say Lost Lake everyone smiles. Fine. I'll try it.

Lost Lake is gorgeous and busy. I would definitely recommend staying during the week for less hustle and bustle. The campsites are pretty private at least! But you will need to walk to get to the lake. We had a great day with our rowboat rental. At the time of our stay the rowboat was $80 to rent for the full day. Take a cooler with you and dock at more secluded areas on the lake for a full day out on the water. This lake is non-motorized watercraft only. There is a day use area but during the week it was pretty empty. They do have a camp store if you need any basic supplies, ice cream, or a coonskin cap! There is a walking path around the lake but the farther out you get the less people you'll encounter. And there's a creepy old cabin out on the back side of the lake which is a No Trespassing zone but you can dock and walk by it.

Our youngest son said he didn't even want to row near it. Then he exclaimed when he saw people on the dock, "Hey! Those are just regular people!" He was expecting witches!

You'll want to bring wet wipes. The campsites are dusty dirt and I think my kids got dirtier here than any other campground we've stayed at. There is no running water either so as much as you can prepare your food at home, do it. We had hand sanitizer, soap and bottled water. We did our best to keep the germs down but the kids were dirty the whole trip! At least no one got food poisoning.

Also, this is the most rodent infested campground we've stayed at. You think there are a lot of chipmunks at Beverly Beach! Just wait until you stay at Lost Lake! There are 10 times as many plus squirrels and ravens. One chipmunk actually ran up my leg, one left droppings in my coffee cup, they went in the tent. Moral of the story... they are adorable, keep everything locked up tight and do not keep any snacks in your tent. We put all the snacks in the van overnight or anytime we left the campsite.

I did end up liking the campground but I think I would've liked it better if I was a teenager. It's definitely a party campground. If you book, book early! I booked in early spring and could barely get in for the season.
