old st. francis school - mcmenamins

Hidden rooms, a secret pub, and a most beautiful indoor soaking tub will make this one of your favorite stops! I'm a fan of the many McMenamins locations anyway but this one is a favorite. Old St. Francis School is nestled in beautiful Bend, OR. This hotel is perfect for the outdoor (and indoor) lovers alike.

The main building is a converted Catholic Schoolhouse which is probably pretty obvious but I thought I'd point it out. There are two new building additions where you can stay called the Ed House and the Art house. On our last trip we stayed in the Ed House. Roam to the top floor and visit the Broom Closet. So fun! It's like entering the world of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In both the Ed and Art houses you can find secret rooms behind the walls, if you know where to push. They will light your way when you check in!

In the Evening you'll enjoy sitting out on the O'Kanes patio where they keep bonfires lit for your warmth and joy. Cigar smoking is allowed in this portion of the grounds, if you're into that sort of thing.

My favorite part about this hotel is the soaking tub. Be aware that unlike other locations, this soaking tub is open to the public. Don't bother going during public open hours. There will most likely be many mother's with their children and instead of a relaxing soak you'll be splashed and endure some serious noise pollution. They close it to the public from 7am-11am and then again after 8pm (minors leave at 6pm).

They have several restaurants on the premises and a movie theater. If you stop by, let me know what your favorite part of your stay is!
