handmade mushroom garland

Sweet and simple, you can make this garland in an afternoon! It takes no special skills and the supplies are easily available. Perfect gift for anyone who loves woodland vibes! And for fairy lovers… simply string little twinkle lights along with it.

SUPPLIES:

  • mandarin oranges (each orange will make two mushrooms)

  • food dehydrator or cooling rack

  • knife/cutting board/melon baller/hand orange juicer

  • red accrylic paint/paint brush

  • white paint pen

  • hot glue gun/glue sticks

  • small twigs

  • small eye screws

  • twine

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Cut your oranges in half.

  2. Juice the orange halves ( save the juice in the fridge to add to a meal or to drink later.)

  3. Scoop the pulp gently from the rind. Discard.

  4. Place the orange peel halves in a food dehydrator for about an hour… You can also just let them air dry on a cooling rack, that will take longer though.

  5. After the oranges are dry paint the outsides red. Let dry.

  6. After the paint dries, use the white paint pen to create the spots. (TIP) I used a ping pong ball held inside the peel to help me keep the pen from pressing indents into the peel. Let dry.

  7. Screw eye screw through the top of the peel, add hot glue over the screw on the inside and then place your twig into the glue. My twigs were hollow stalks so I screwed them in to attach, as well as using the glue.

  8. After the glue dries…. string them! I tied a knot with the twine over each loop to keep the mushrooms in place.

Voila! Magical woodland gift or decor!
