handmade tassel scarf
Last minute gift idea? This scarf uses chunky yarn so it knits up very quickly! The tassels are the hardest part but after you get one down, you’re golden!
SUPPLIES;
2 balls wool ease thick&quick in black and 1 ball in gray.
Size 13 knitting needles.
A small piece of cardboard.
DIRECTIONS:
FOR SCARF:
Cast on 16 stitches in gray
Knit 17 rows.
Change to black and knit until piece measures 60 inches.
Change back to gray and knit 17 rows.
Bind off.
FOR TASSELS:
Make 4 tassels.
Cut 4 pieces of gray yarn 12 inches long each. Set aside.
Using a piece of cardboard 4 inches square, wrap the gray yarn around 10 times.
Take a length of saved yarn and slide it under the yarn loops and tie a knot at the top so you can take the yarn loops off the cardboard and keep it in a neat bundle.
Cut the bottom of the loops bundle to create a tassel fringe.
Take the working yarn (still attached to the ball) and wrap it around the top of the tassel, about an inch down from the top, pulling very tight as you go.
Cut the yarn from the ball. Slide yarn into a yarn needle and then wrap the strand over the wound section into the center of the tassel and down. Remove the needle. Cut yarn to tassel length.
Repeat to make three more tassels.
Tie the tassels to the corner edges of the scarf in a knot with the top length of yarn and then using the yarn needle pull the extra yarn into the tassel and trim if necessary.
Voila!
